Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3/4 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup Christmas-colored sprinkles

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, cream or tartar and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, using a hand mixer or a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, beat the softened butter on high speed for 1 minute until creamy.
  3. Switch to medium-high speed and add the brown sugar and granulated sugar. Beat until the mixture is completely creamed and smooth, about 2 minutes.
  4. With the mixer on low-speed, add the egg to the mixture and beat until well combined. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl as needed.
  5. Next, add vanilla extract. Beat until everything is well combined.
  6. On low-speed, gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and beat until combined. Be careful not to overmix the dough.
  7. Pour the sprinkles into the batter and mix by hand to incorporate.
  8. Using a 1-tablespoon cookie scoop, scoop dough and roll it into a ball.
  9. Chill the cookie dough balls for at least 1 hour.
  10. Once dough is chilled, preheat oven to 350°F and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  11. Place cookie dough on baking sheets, spacing 2 to 3 inches apart. Bake for 9-11 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through. The cookies are done when the edges of the cookie just begin to turn golden brown and the centers look slightly under-baked.
  12. Remove the pan from oven and allow the cookies to cool on the cookie sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely.
