Save time and space in your kitchen this Thanksgiving with easy and creamy Instant Pot Mashed Sweet Potatoes. A holiday meal side that doesn't go into the oven or on the stove top, is easy to clean up, and can be sweet, savory, or somewhere in between!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 1/2 pounds sweet potatoes
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 4 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Wash, peel and cut sweet potatoes into 2″ cubes.
  2. Place the steamer basket in the bottom of the Instant Pot or electric pressure cooker. Add 1 cup of hot water and the sea salt to the bottom of the Instant Pot.
  3. Next, place the sweet potatoes in the steamer basket*. Cover and cook on high pressure for 8 minutes. Immediately quick release the pressure when cooking time is done.
  4. Remove the basket and drain the sweet potato pieces of any excess liquid.
  5. Depending on when you'll be serving this dish, either turn off the Instant Pot if serving immediately. Or set it to warm if serving later. Place sweet potatoes back into the Instant Pot insert, add the remaining ingredients and mash until smooth.
  6. Place the mashed sweet potatoes in a serving bowl and add chopped pecans (or additional mix-ins) and enjoy!

Notes

*if you don’t have an instant pot steamer basket, use the metal trivet insert that came with your Instant Pot.
