Our household buzzes with festive spirit, and making Christmas reindeer food is a beloved ritual. This easy activity fits in perfectly with our other family favorites, like the mischievous Elf on the Shelf antics, baking scrumptious Christmas cookies, crafting heartfelt letters to Santa, and counting down the days with an advent calendar. This is a fun Christmas tradition, especially for little kids, as it's an easy recipe and there's really no wrong way to make magic reindeer food.   • Oats
  • Sprinkles or Edible Glitter*
  • Large Bowl
  • Spatula
  • Clear bags (I use these 8 in x 6 in cellophane bags)
  • Scissors
  • Stapler or Tape
  • Printer (to print the free printable tags)

* I used sprinkles and edible glitter. Regular craft glitter is not wildlife-friendly.

How to Make Reindeer Food

In under five minutes, you can whip up a batch of this delightful reindeer treat. This recipe makes enough for four reindeer food bags if you're using these cellophane bags. The free reindeer food printables come with two tags per page, so you'll need to print it twice if you're following the recipe.

  1. Mix It Up: In a large bowl, swirl together your oats and sprinkles.
  2. Bag the Magic: Scoop about 1 heaping cup of this oat mixture into cellophane bags. These clear bags can be found in the cake and cookie decorating aisle of your local craft store, or easily purchased online! You could also use any type of clear bag you have, like a Ziploc bag.
  3. Add a Dash of Charm: Now for the fun part! Download and print out our adorable magic reindeer food printable tags. Cut along the horizontal dotted line and fold them on the vertical line. Place over the top of each bag and secure them with a staple. It’s that simple!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • ¼ cup Christmas Sprinkles
Prevent your screen from going dark.

Instructions

  • Download and print 2 pages of this free printable reindeer food tag.
  • In a large bowl, mix oats and sprinkles.
  • Scoop 1 heaping cup of oat mixture into each bag and seal.
  • Cut along the dotted horizontal lines to make 2 tags.
  • Fold along vertical dotted lines and place over the top of the plastic bags.
  • Staple or tape free reindeer food poem over the bag.
  • Sprinkle on your front lawn on Christmas Eve.
