    Bourbon Cream Cheese Frosting

Subtly sweet and tangy, this Bourbon Cream Cheese Frosting has a bit of complexity thanks to a dash of bourbon

    Bourbon Cream Cheese Frosting

The first time I had cream cheese frosting I knew I could never go back to an all butter frosting. I loooove butter, but I also like the complex flavor and subtle sweetness that comes from the cream cheese. I also believe the cream cheese helps balance a sugary dessert. And just for fun, let's add some bourbon - because bourbon makes everything better!

For the bourbon component of this frosting, I added one teaspoon at a time until I was happy with the flavor. If you have a heavy hand with the bourbon pour, it can make the frosting too thin and runny. So it’s best to start out teaspoon by teaspoon to make sure the flavor and thickness are to your liking. If the frosting happens to get a little runny, just pop it in the fridge for a few hours or overnight to thicken and for the flavors to deepen.

This Bourbon Cream Cheese Frosting recipe is so versatile that you can use it on everything. My favorite recipes to use it on would be fall-spiced recipes. Happy baking friends!

    Cheers!

Bourbon adds a great surprise to the complex flavor and subtle sweetness of the cream cheese frosting.

    • Prep Time: 10 min
    • Total Time: 10 minutes
    • Yield: 1 enough frosting for a double layer cake 1x
    • Category: Dessert
    • Method: Mixer
    • Cuisine: American

    Ingredients

    Scale
    • ½ cup butter, softened
    • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
    • 2-4 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 2+ teaspoons bourbon

    Instructions

    1. Beat softened butter and softened cream cheese in a mixer until well blended.
    2. Add vanilla and sifted powdered sugar one cup at a time until you get a flavor you are happy with. Beat until creamy.
    3. Add bourbon 1 teaspoon at a time until you get a flavor you are happy with.

    Notes

If you have a heavy hand with the bourbon pour, it can make the frosting too thin and runny. So it’s best to start out teaspoon by teaspoon to make sure the flavor and thickness are to your liking. If the frosting happens to get a little runny, just pop it in the fridge for a few hours or overnight to thicken and for the flavors to deepen.

The bourbon makes this frosting seem like a notch above every other frosting. I love to use it when I'm making fall treats.
