Subtly sweet and tangy, this Bourbon Cream Cheese Frosting has a bit of complexity thanks to a dash of bourbon

Bourbon Cream Cheese Frosting

The first time I had cream cheese frosting I knew I could never go back to an all butter frosting. I loooove butter, but I also like the complex flavor and subtle sweetness that comes from the cream cheese. I also believe the cream cheese helps balance a sugary dessert. And just for fun, let's add some bourbon - because bourbon makes everything better!

My favorite recipes to use this bourbon cream cheese frosting include my Pumpkin Whoopie Pies with Bourbon Cream Cheese Frosting and Ginger Sandwich Cookies with Bourbon Cream Cheese Frosting!

For the bourbon component of this frosting, I added one teaspoon at a time until I was happy with the flavor. If you have a heavy hand with the bourbon pour, it can make the frosting too thin and runny. So it’s best to start out teaspoon by teaspoon to make sure the flavor and thickness are to your liking. If the frosting happens to get a little runny, just pop it in the fridge for a few hours or overnight to thicken and for the flavors to deepen.

The bourbon makes this frosting seem like a notch above every other frosting. I love to use it when I'm making fall treats.
